If top athletes can take a break maybe we can too?!

A quick thought for the week;

After the Tokyo olympics Simone Biles chose to take a break to prioritise her mental health. Watching her performances this week I couldn’t help but reflect on what a great call that was!

I can’t imagine it was easy, I don’t know about you but sometimes I can struggle to take a break even when I know full well it’s the best thing for me and that is without the scrutiny of the world media! Simone has spoken out about the positive impact this break has had and how she has used therapy to improve her personal and work wellbeing. It’s great hearing about someone so high profile putting their needs first and reaping the benefits so spectacularly

It’s well documented that being in tune with our physical and mental health needs improves our performance, that taking breaks can improve our performance in the short and long term and that good work life balance is key to wellbeing … and yet putting that into action can be much harder than it sounds. This week if my brain is telling me I shouldn’t take that break I think I might take the response of “if Olympians can benefit from taking the gas off a bit maybe I can too!!” Essentially “Be more Simone Biles” …. But less agile
